Real estate, school taxes, and public education. Public education is in profound
jeopardy because of a combination of unfunded state mandates on districts and a
declining tax base. Taxpayers aren’t getting their money’s worth and students aren’t
getting the education to which they are constitutionally entitled.
The 33 rd District has a number of underperforming districts as a result of economic
stagnation and isolation due to bad transportation infrastructure
The solution lies in encouraging economic development programs, demanding state
dollars for the transportation links needed to grow these communities, and an end to
unfunded mandates that struggling districts cannot afford. These communities have
been abandoned and left to manage decline. Economic growth can ensure the economic
growth that will fund schools that meet student needs.
